STRAWBERRY 101

they should be washed when they are
ready to be eaten and should always be stored in the refrigerator.

DO STRAWBERRIES CONTAIN ANY IMPORTANT NUTRIENTS?
Yes, they contain fiber (which is good for your gut), vitamin a (aids in the health of
our eyes, skin and immune system),
vitamin c (helps with wound healing),
folic acid and potassium.

SELECTING BERRIES AT THE GROCERY STORE
The berries should have a glossy bright appearance and red color developed. Fruit with shriveling, mushiness, signs of spoilage or a dull appearance should be avoided.

HOW MANY SEEDS ARE IN EACH BERRY?
Each berry contains roughly 200 seeds... and yes, they are safe to eat.

DID YOU KNOW STRAWBERRIES ARE PRE-COOLED?
Precooling a strawberry happens no more than one hour after harvest. The temperature range is from 32-34 degrees Fahrenheit. This cooling method may be performed in many ways. The purpose of precooling is to remove field heat to provide top quality berries. Without the precooling, the berries would deteriorate quickly.
